East Coast Vintage Volvo Club History

For years people around Atlantic Canada have had an affinity for old Volvos, and there are some of us who truly enjoy the challenge & pleasure of restoring, driving and keeping an older Volvo in service.

There happened to be two individuals who each had P1800 Volvos for a number of years who were both living in Nova Scotia at the time. They met by chance at a Vintage Volvo meet in New England. Each individual knew a few others who were also driving 1800's, 122's and 544's.

So one cold day in April 2001, Karl Tonn & David Barrett were talking one evening and said "we should start a club and get a support group going".

Between them they probably knew 5 or 6 people with older Volvos.

It was decided not to limit the club to just 1800s and open it to "Vintage Volvos". Rules would be simple. No fees, just an informal association of people who enjoy older Volvos to share information, knowledge and a few outings. Club would be open to all resident in the Atlantic Canada provinces.

What qualifies as a Vintage Volvo? Well, most any Volvo 15 years or older but we are really not too strict!

The club has grown to 22 members with about 30 + cars (some of our members have 3 or more cars! - and drive newer Volvos for daily drivers)

At present all members are in Nova Scotia, but new members are always welcome.
